With my weight inclined to the left side
Distantly sipping some coffee in the name of relaxing
Absent mindedly following a wildlife documentary on the TV screen
The eyes are open and can see
But every passing session is forgotten instantly
Of interest pops a gigantic zebra
With the beautiful skin shiny and entertaining
Just enough to make me smile and put a little more attention
From a distance emerges a hungry lion
Sandwiched by weak lazy cubs
Sensing danger, the zebra raises its head, and starts its way away
At first with a little slow pace, a trot, then a gallop
As if following a command, the twin cubs stop and watch
As the senior lion begins the chase
Expanding and contracting in a rhythmic motion
Little cubs cannot help salivating
Having tried all speed tactics in vain
The zebra is in danger, as the lion makes final stretches of success
Running almost side by side with it pray, it calculates when best to strike
But the chance delays to come, making it a longer scene to watch
Bending its back slightly to the lion, the zebra pulls its hind legs

And releases a double kick that rests on the least expecting lion’s chest
In a blow that sees it somersaulting backwards
Shaking its head, the lion stops and contemplates
As the zebra vanishes, riding on trots of survival
I burst into loud laughter, as I flash to think of my lover
Who kicked my chest, in a repelling force
And spit in my face in disgust
In a way that frustrates my zeal to pursue
If hungry lions can give up, just like this
I am justified to give up too.
